History of MNNP

 

October, 2008

A meeting was held in St. Cloud organized by Kevin Ballard, Minnesota State Representative to AANP.
35 NP’s met and two organizations were recommended.

MN APRN’s

  • Purposes: education, networking and discussion of legislative issues.
  • Initial officers were identified.
  • One member would be a representative to the MN APRN Legislative Coalition.

Minnesota APRN Legislative Coalition.

  • Composed of representatives from each APRN organization in Minnesota.
  • Regular meetings to discuss state practice issues and proposed legislation.

Summer, 2009

  • Name changed from MN-APRN’s to Minnesota Nurse Practitioners.
  • Work continued on website, bank account, po box, certificate of incorporation, tax id,non-profit status, vision, mission, organizational structure and bylaws.
  • Planning began for a first annual conference November 14.

November, 2009

  • First annual conference held at the Radisson Convention Center in Plymouth.
  • Conference attendance 62, with 12 exhibitors. Membership increased to 57.
  • Initial bylaws approved.
  • AANP affiliation approved for 1 year.

2010

  • MN Board of Nursing and other NP groups recognize MNNP as a viable NP organization.
  • Three, one hour CE’s approved by AANP planned for February, May and September.
  • Annual conference planned for November 13 at the Earle Brown Heritage Center providing 4 CE’s approved by AANP.
  • Website under professional development to have secure payment, online conference registration and members secure area for communication and members database.
  • Application in process for non-profit status.
